June 2011

new - 50MHz shack

After a disappointment in May when we wanted to lift up another antenna tower using a ski lift pillar what was prevented just a day before contest we gathered again with new ideas :-)

It is well known that in June is one of those dullish contest, with small number of participants, so we decided to put in the air another band - 50MHz...! Lack of excitement? Certainly not, because we started the contest with 5 ops operating eight bands!? Curiosity I'd say, ham spirit... ;-)

But, curiosity killed the cat...!!!

Well, nothing to worry about. We are fit and ready, our wives are now for years used to live with our "stupid and childish hobby". What to say more :-) Even a bad weather and storms which we experienced through the weekend cannot stop us!

Bojan, S57TW took over the 50MHz band. We lifted up a single 6 el. yagi and we even found a tight corner in the shack for IC-575, laptop and rotor command.

Branko, S57C started the contest on 2m band. Jani, S52CO missed the start for about  4 hrs due to his attendance at ARDF meeting. Station used for the band was FT1K with Javornik Xverter. Antennas remain the same for whole season, 2 x 5wl K6MYC and 6 x 3 el. beaming 30 deg (OK, OM).

Like S52CO on 2mtrs Tone S57Q missed the start on 70cms, too. Bojan S51QA had to sit on his chair and this is the reason why we are very short on photos and video this time :-) Setup: IC 475 and 4x 21 el. yagi.

1 & 2 & 3GHz bands are normally operated by Branko, S57C, but as he started on 2m band, Joze, S57NAW came in. Station setup was the same as last time IC 275 and xverters at the back of 180cm dish.

5 & 10GHz were operated by Adi, S55M from renewed van shack. Base station was Flex-1500 feeding the xverters and 180cm dish. He was probably the only person who enjoyed the stormy weather and consequently the rain scatter conditions. Really nice to see the signals appearing on the waterfall when antenna was pointed to the clouds...
